In Skin

For your skin to stay healthy, glowing, firm and young, you need to take care of it daily.  The skin is the largest organ of the human body, and it is exposed to many harsh environments as we go through the day.  Because the skin is made up of pores, which are small surface openings, they are able to absorb, as well as, release tiny particles.  As we go about our day, we may be exposed to pollutants in the air, wind, heat from the sun, and all sorts of environmental stresses, even if we are the healthiest person on the planet.    All of these things cause the skin to become tired, wrinkly, dry and dull.  Daily skin care can prevent aging and give your skin the protection it needs to look and feel it’s best for many years to come.  Because of constant research, new scientific and technological developments, some products are even able to work at the cellular level of the skin to slow down or even reverse aging processes.  The best way to take care of your skin daily is by following a three step process: Cleansing, Toning and Moisturizing.

Cleansing the Face

Some people think that the more they wash their face, the better.  It is not recommended to wash your face more than twice a day, and in cases such as skin dryness or flakiness, it is better to wash it once a day.  Soap and water is not always the best when it comes to washing the face.   Soaps can be harsh and drying and are usually meant to be used on hands and the body.  Facial skin is much more sensitive and soft, so it is best to use a cleanser specifically for the face.

Toning your Skin

Toning is an important part of the facial skin regimen.  The toner aids in removing excess oils and anything left over after cleansing the skin.   It prepares the face for moisturizer and even balances the skin’s PH levels.  In some cases, toner helps in minimizing the appearance of pores.

Treating your skin can also be greatly beneficial, especially if you are trying to get rid of redness, pigment spots or acne.  There are special serums and masks that can be used before moisturizing the skin.  Make sure you choose quality products and do your research before applying any treatment serum or mask to your face.  For example, Artistry has an amazing treatment that is an alternative to a chemical peel, exfoliating the skin and promoting smoothness.  Give it a try!

Moisturize and Protect

Moisturizing the skin is the final step!  There are different moisturizers for day and night.  The reason for this is because your skin has different processes during the day than it has at night.  During the day, for example, your skin is more exposed to the weather and atmosphere.  The sun and wind can cause dryness, flakiness and damage.  Making sure your moisturizer contains SPF protection is important!    At night, the skin is more relaxed and the repair systems usually kick in during your sleep.  Great night moisturizers usually heal and restore the skin during your sleep time.

These steps apply to both women and men.  Even though men have thicker, firmer facial skin, it is still prone to aging processes.  Make sure to follow these steps daily to achieve healthy, glowing skin!
